Villa Saffron is a home in New York that holds its owners' collection of objects and stories — a home made of narratives. This stage of the living-room design focused on the ceiling: as the room's "fifth wall", it was the one surface still open to carry part of the room's story.
The palette was drawn from Persian tilework and the brick of the existing fireplace: peacock teal (Tavus), lapis blue (Lajevard), cypress green (Sarv) and brick (Khesht), with antique brass for fittings and frames.
Before any decision, look-and-feel studies explored a wide range of colour and mood, followed by five ceiling studies from one fixed camera angle — from a draped fabric canopy and a coffered wood ceiling to a full botanical treatment. The studio's recommendation carries the botanical pattern across the perimeter beams only and keeps the centre of the ceiling white and calm: a frame for the room that never competes with the collection beneath it.
