Family Home in Amman
Project
Residential villa · Architecture
Location
Amman, Jordan
Date
August 2025
This house is designed for a family in a growing neighbourhood of Amman, the capital of Jordan — a city whose architectural identity is defined by limestone, courtyard houses and hilly terrain.
The design draws on the principles of the traditional Middle Eastern house: a central courtyard for privacy and cooling, iwans for shade, mashrabiya for airflow and privacy, and thick walls to balance temperature. These elements are reinterpreted in a modern language: earthy materials such as brick, stone and clay used with contemporary techniques, warm neutral tones, and simple geometry that makes light and shadow the main tools for shaping space.
Amman's hot, dry summers call for passive cooling, natural ventilation and shaded outdoor spaces. The sloping site made room for a basement with parking, a gym and pool plant, while courtyards and double-height spaces bring daylight deep into the house.
The house is set over three levels: a basement; a ground floor with the salon, dining room, kitchen, family room and courtyard; and a first floor with bedrooms and a library, plus the roof. The project is in the design stage.
